How to Turn On an APC UPS That Was Turned Off During a Power Failure? But the UPSs (BackUPS Pro 1100 and 1400 and SmartUPS 1000 models) won't turn on, even though they are fully charged.

I'm without power due to Hurricane Isabel. I moved my computers to a safe room before the hurricane hit. Now I'd like to use them, but the UPSs (BackUPS Pro 1100 and 1400 and SmartUPS 1000 models) won't turn on, even though they are fully charged! Apparently this is a 'feature'; they won't turn ON unless they have power...
My two smaller BackUPS 500's will turn on, but will only run my system for a very short time.
Does anyone know of a safe way to get the beefier UPSs to turn on?
I can only check the net intermittently. I'll be recharging the iBook later this evening, since it's nearly out of juice as well... I should be able to check online again around 10:00 or 11:00.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. The small UPSs will run the iBook for a long time, but I'd like to be able to my (Windows-based) work PC, at least to check/send some work-related e-mails and such...
